Lake, I would love to read The Weeping, hopefully sooner than later. Easier prey, doubtful. Maybe she didn't care for the swamps or alligators.

Each summer, I walked a wooden catwalk in North Florida, that ran beside a clear river surrounded by a huge swamp filled with large cypress trees. Late at night, the frogs croaked and alligators called. The moon glimmered thorough the moss laden trees, and cast a faint light upon the boards.

Perhaps she did see me, and I'm thankful she moved on. It was in that swamp, beside that river, alone, that I knew complete peace and love. -Nevada:)

So you got a lot done this weekend? Well done; pleased for you.
Hope you're doing as well as me: I've made myself a new rule that means I'm <i>finally<i> making more than minimal progress: http://47-5.blogspot.com/2012/02/productivity-rules.html
Not only have I gotten poor old ALexis, who's been stuck in the opening scenes for bl**dy ages, moving on, but I've met a couple of great new characters who I didn't even know existed! One of them is Barak, who's kinda an old-school vampire, so if you're in Wisconsin, watch out because they really are out for blood.

No ideas about the Scary Story, I'm afraid.

Ughh I hate thinking about people being burned. I have trouble separating fiction and reality.

The skeptic in me suggests that someone else handed the guitar in under Lance Baker's name, for some reason, but I'm not listening to her. I want to know what happened to Leonard.

Gripping stuff; can't wait for the next instalment.

Wow, thank you! I appreciate that very much. In the outline this was chapter 58 and 57 was in Garren’s POV. But the more I thought about it, the more it seemed that we weren’t learning anything new about the kid. It showed him being angry, being in conflict, being a guitar player… So I shredded the hard copy and deleted that portion – and it killed me to do it!

Hey, Nevada – You’re not alone. When I tell people about la llorona they usually look at me in bewilderment. She seems to be a legend isolated to culture, but not geography. She’s everywhere. La llorona was a huge part of my upbringing and, maybe, the first scary story I fell in love with. Whenever I get home, I still poke around the riverbank and listen.

I’ve got a WIP called The Weeping that centers on her. I’m eager to start writing it, but have too much on my plate at this time. It’s nothing like the Cry and, on that note, you didn’t miss anything. The Cry was a low budget film and that hardly made sense. It angered me, actually, that such a bad story rose from a poignant legend that continues to stalk the modern world. And yes, many have followed in her footsteps. I hate to think what will happen to them.

Be happy you didn’t know about her in your childhood, but know that she may have seen you. Perhaps she summed you up and moved on in search of easier prey? Be safe… LL

Lake, I’d never heard of La Llorona until I saw this on your site last year. At the time, I thought you referenced an actual book, but soon learned it was a Spanish legend dating back to the 1500’s! How did I not know about this? I remember seeing the preview to the movie The Cry, but never caught it in the theatre.

Sadly, throughout the years, so many mothers have followed in Maria’s footsteps…using rivers such as the Hudson, Wardsboro, Edisto, and when a river is not convenient, a lake, pond, or even bathtub will suffice. I wonder if these mothers will one day be sentenced to an eternity of weeping for their lost children, and like the legend, will they also claim the lives of more innocent children.

I’m glad I didn’t learn about this in my childhood. I love the water at night, and camping near a river. While I often enjoy the sounds of frogs, alligators, and owls, I will now listen for the cries of La Llorona.
Peace! Nevada:))
