short horror stories, scary little stories,

It’s Monday and the words are late. No worries – all is underway. The hardest part about the writing career right now is the constant juggling. It takes an agile imagination and masochistic muse to jump from full-time job to freelance client to fiction all in the same day. Sometimes it seems as if I’m being swallowed by work and unfinished horror stories… Sometimes I think I’m a freaking lunatic for taking this whole thing one.

But at the end of the day when it’s quiet in the writing lair and I’m listening to the sound of car wheels on a rain slicked street and I’m awake enough for just a few more words, it’s worth it. It’s totally absolutely one-hundred percent worth it.

The truth is – and I must remember this – I always wanted to be a writer. Compared to some aspirations it’s a lame ass dream. But it was the first dream I ever had, the first one I gave myself permission to have, and it never went away. The dream slipped around the sometimes-nerdy, sometimes-troubled boy I was like broken-in jeans and a favorite shirt. It just fit. And now it’s really happening – finally. I’m not a millionaire – ha – nor am I writing horror stories all day long. I spent today writing some very un-scary stuff. But it’s wordplay and it pays; and ultimately it makes me a better scribe.

Some items on Tomorrow’s list:

  1. Revise – Sinister Chapters 39 and 40 (check plot points up to Mid Point)
  2. Explore #FlashFiction shorts “Cemetery Whispers” and “The Hackers.”
  3. Review “The War of Art” for inspiration.
  4. Most of all – relax, all is well.

Sometimes one needs to play, relax, & yes, all is as it should be:)) The book you referenced, is this The War of Art by S. Pressfield? I’ve read The Artist’s Way, but never The War of Art. -Nevada

It is indeed – TWOA is one of my fav books. I call on it for inspiration all the time. Haven’t read the Artist Way but always see it at B&N. Recommended? LL

From what I’ve read, TWOA is along the same lines as TAW. So, I would say no need for you to read. I may get TWOA though. I may actually prefer it to the other. -Nevada

By the way, I personally preferred TWOA to TAW. TAW is a book that guides you through a 12 week workshop of self exploration and overcoming the fears that stop you from writing. I read through the book, but never actually completed most of the exercises. I think I grew bored, or maybe I just wasn’t ready:) Wow, I bought that book in 1997!

Anyway, realized I never did fully answer your question:) -Nevada
